Strangers at the Ruins: Epilogue

We took the slaves to their home village and set off to the order’s castle with Jason.
Jason told us that after preparation we would come back to the ruins and clear here up before “All Father” send another of his princes.

Anyway we got to the castle (…with 2000 of gold pieces and several magic items that we found in Halin’s mansion).
The castle of The Order of the Morning Glory was a well defended fortress also. It was located on the top of the 300ft of cliff. The behind of the castle was guarded by steep mountains, and at the foot of the cliff, a great river was flowing.
In the castle, we met many people. Almost 100 people were operating the castle. Knights with their armors, horses, armorers…even there was a wizard’s tower.

And we met two important knights. The elder was Sir Throne and the younger was Sir Luck.
Sir Throne said to us.
“Welcome, amazing heroes from afar! I heard about you from Jason. You are looking for your princess named…”
“Kyoko. Princess Kyoko”
“Yes, she has been taken to the palace of “All Father”. At the palace, there is a harem. “All Father” gathers 500 of princesses in the harem. I heard about princess Kyoko. Now she is alive. And untouched.”
“Untouched…!!”
I felt an unspeakable relief.
“All Father” has great harem.” Sir Throne continued. “He gathers over 500 of princess to make princes. But…strangely enough, he is too old to…it’s hard to explain, but anyway, he makes princes in someway with these princesses.
But, anyway, she is untouched. Because the tattoo that inscribed on her was “The innocent”. So “All Father” couldn’t touch her”
“Do you know about the old man who inscribed us tattoos?”
Hideki asked but the answer from Sir Throne was “No”.
“I’m sorry but no one in this castle knows about him. But he must be in our side. We must search him because if he has magical power, he must help us. We are fighting against “All Father” and we need help. So we have to do several things. We must search the old man and must find your countrymen also.”
“Our countrymen?”
“Yes. If the old man tattooed you all…not only you but all people with you…about 100 of your countrymen, there must be other people with magical tattoo. They will help us.”
“That sounds so reasonable!”
Hideki said.
“After we become strong enough, we’ll attack “All Father” and defeat him!
So we will train you. Not only for your swordsmanship. In this castle, there are all kinds of people. Clerics, wizards…and so on. I think, some of you may have magical talent.”

I really don’t know I have talent or something, but anyway…
The adventure has just begun.

Strangers at the Ruins: Act3-3...Freedom!

Outside of the ruins, there ware many guards. As soon as they saw that we wore armor, they rushed to us.
“Don’t worry; it has a reason…down your weapon!”
Grog said. Over there, Halin was coming. He said, “What has happened, Grog”
“Nothing, Mr. Halin, nothing…Go!”

We descended on the guards. Surprisingly, Yahichi killed a guard at his first single attack.
“You see, “a clever hawk hides his pounces”…” He mumbled.
Anyway, we were caught in a straggle. There ware larger number of guards than us. Hideki was given good hits but he fought with bloody face. “Help me, Yayoi, heal me!” He shouted but he didn’t stop his fierce fighting. “Quick! I almost die!!”
Yayoi rushed to Hideki and heal him. “Hideki, you know, you are still in danger! Yahichi, give him your potion…!!”
When Yayoi looked back to Yahichi, she saw that Yahichi was drinking the second bottle of potion. “What are you doing!?” “I’ve just saved my life, you know, because I was injured and…”
“Yuki! Pick up the third bottle from Yahichi!”
Yayoi shouted to me.
“Hideki needs it!”
“Enough, Yayoi”
Hideki said. “I’m a diehard. Don’t worry!”

At the other side of the battle line, Ichiro fought an unnatural fight. When he was fighting, dark mist came from between his fingers. The mist surrounded the fighting guards and Ichiro…Two seconds later, one guards killed by his blinded friend’s sword. At the next moment, Ichiro charged into the dark mist. He killed a guard with single stroke and cleaved another.

We are getting upper hand of them. Actually I was nearly killed…but the third bottle of the potion helped my life. Grog hit Halin and literally launched him into the air.
“Surrender and drop your weapons!”
Yahichi shouted and all surviving guards stopped to fight and surrendered.

During we tied up Halin, Jason kicked away the door and came out.
“You have done? You have finished all? Sorry, I’m too late”
Jason said.
“What amazing hero you are!”

There were many slaves surrounded us at a distance.
Hideki shouted to them.
“You all are free now! Let’s go! Let’s go home!!”

Strangers at the Ruins: Act3-2...Enemy or Friend

We came back near to the entrance…and we stopped.
Grog was coming with his men. He was searching us.
“Where are you…You should be coming out now!”
We heard Grog’s voice.
“Master Grog!” Hideki shouted, “Our work was fine”
“Good, but it’s end of the day…Come out!”
“Yes, Master.” Hideki shouted to out and said to us. “Okay, we have to hide in this ruins. Spider boy! You go up and stay on the ceiling. You just wait the half ogre and attack him from the top.”
“Sure!”
Yamanokouji grinned in delight. He so enjoyed the idea.
“And I’ll hide here and command you! It’s so natural because…”
“You’re a noble, your highness”
Yahichi said and someone answered sulkily. No one could argue. Anyway he had no weapon.
“And you go and rope Grog into here, you, smooth little lady.”
Hideki said to me. That was natural. It’s no matter how I smooth or not, I’m the only person without armor.
“Okay” I nodded and ran to out.
“Master Grog!” I shouted. “We found! We found great magical item but it was too great to bring up!! Master Grog, please come and help us!!”
“What? What kind of…”
“I don’t know, but it is so big and shining…”
I shouted and ran back into the ruins. Grog followed me and…

I stopped and looked back when I heard Grog’s angry exclamation. He caught in our trap. Yes, he was strong. But we were nine (no. eight. Yahichi never came into the scene except his voice)! When Grog fell down, we all stand except Yayoi. She was hit him with big club and fly off for 20 ft. But there was no problem because she was still breathing. Yahich threw me a bottle of potion and said “Use the potion for Yayoi!” I didn’t know what a kind of potion that was, but gave her the potion, hoping it had healing power. Anyway, she opened her eye. So I knew that things turned out right.

After a moment, I noticed that the six men of Grog were running out!
“Come on! Don’t let them go!!”
Hideki said but “No!” I shouted. “Outside, there are too many guards for us to manage to fight…” “But what we can!?” “No, I don’t know but…” We had to stop the guards but we could do nothing, but we had to…I wanted to stop them but I had no idea. I didn’t know what to do but I REALLY wanted to stop them but…
At the moment, a lot of vines came from the wall and entangled six guards. And my tattoo was glowing! “The green thumb” meant that!

So we rained blows on the guards, took away their weapons (at that time, Yahichi got his weapon at last. Yayoi and Hideki got light cross bow and arrows for them each) and tied them up.

Next, we turned to Grog. We tied up Grog also.
“Wake up!” Hideki kicked Grog. “Prepare to die”
Grog opened his eye and looked around. When he saw Yayoi, he growled with a surprise.
“Why the hussy is alive? I gave her good hit!!”
“You just dreamed”
“And where did you find these weapons and…”
“Secret. Listen! We want to kill you Grog.”
Hideki intimidated Grog.
“We really want to kill you, but if you tell us all about…”
“Okay…okay, speak calm”
Grog said. “What do you want to know?”
“We want to know…”
Hiroshi started instead of Hideki. Surprisingly enough, then he started in Ogre language!
“How many other guards are outside?”
“A lot. Oh…you are speaking in ogre! You are so smart! You have big brain in such a small head!”
“My head looks small, but my brain does everything. Okay?”
“Or are you ogre too?”
“Yes, blood of ogre in my body gave me extraordinary toughness, anyway…”
“Oh, such a small size you are, you are half ogre also! Great! Okay brother, what do you want to know?”
I guessed we lucked out. Anyway, we continued.
“Where is the thief last night you caught?”
“He is in the prison in Halin’s mansion. But why do you care about the thief?”
“It’s not your business Grog. Next. Do you know Stomp?”
“Stomp? He is a prince. One of the princes of “All Father”.”
“What do you think about Stomp?”
“He is tough. Very tough. No one, even me, can beat him up. Because he is a prince of “All Father”. He rules the all over the country. But, actually, there is something strange. The all princes of “All Father” are somehow twisted”
“Twisted?”
“Yes. Before, I saw one of other princes who called “Cattlehead”. Anytime he wears his big helm…”
“And what is twisted about Stomp?”
“He is very cruel. He kicks people and…”
“Do you like Stomp?”
Grog just shrugged his shoulders.
“Anyway, we want to beat down Stomp”
“Beat down? You want? Ha-ha, good luck”
“Thank you, and I have something to tell you”
Suddenly Yahichi started to speak.
“If you will come with us, I’ll pay you a lot”
“Do you?”
Grog laughed. “How can you…”
“Yuki! We have to help Yahichi!”
Yayoi breathed out me and started.
“Yes, Grog…to tell the truth, he is a noble. He is tremendously rich and…”
“And he is very good man. Unfortunately, now he is here, but if you help him to go back our country, he’ll appreciate you and give you a lot of money”

At last, Grog said he will help us. So we healed him (Yayoi said “how kind of me!” and laughed) and gave him back his weapon (that was great club) explained him about today’s plan--go to Halin’s mansion and save Drag-Jason--and went out of the ruins.

Strangers at the Ruins: Act3-1...Into the Ruins

At the next morning.
We nine went down to the 7th floor in the basement of the ruins. The map was accurate and we reached the 7th floor without any danger.
But…

We saw a fearsome sight. At the corridor front of us, there were strange contraptions. Every 10 ft, arrows of lightning crossed the corridor. So we couldn’t get forward anymore.
“There must be a switch or something to stop this aggravating contraption!” Hideki said. So we looked for “a switch or something”, but we couldn’t.
“The switch may be located the opposite side of the corridor,” said Hajime. “I’ll go and find the switch. Electrical shock can’t damage me!” As soon as he said, he started to run. No one could stop him.
Lightning shoot Hajime, but Hajime never stop. We saw a dim sphere of rainbow colored light surrounded around Hajime.

“I found!”
After a moment, Hajime shouted to us. “I found twelve buttons on the wall. One of these buttons must be able to stop the lightning!”
That’s right. After a sequence of trial and error, we found correct manner to push buttons and could stop the lightning. And we could go through the corridor.

Over the corridor, there was a small room. The map showed that there was a secret door. Thanks to the map, we found the door easily. But the door was locked. So we have to search the key for the door.
After several minutes, we found…not the key, but pieces of the key. The key was broken.
“I think Masamune will manage them” said Hideki. “Because his tattoo said he is a magical artisan or something”
Masamune smiled and took the pieces. One or two minutes…he fiddled with tiny pieces…and said “Finish.”

The newly-repaired key fit the lock and we could open the door to the armory.
The armory was a large and high-ceiling room. At the ceiling, there was a window and sun light shined in through the window. In the armory, we found a lot of weapons, armors and other stuff. Four long swords, tow short swords, two maces, four half-plate armors, four chain mails…there were three bottles of potion and a wand also. Even there was a dresser. So we could be decent.

We were nine, but there were only eight weapons and armors. So Yahichi said,
“I need no weapon, because I’m a NOBLE! You know, “Richman, no fight”. You all have to fight for me!”
“What a hell allow you to say such a pure nonsense!?”
I shouted. But Yahichi just said “I’ll take the potions and the wand as the master.”
“WHO is the master and WHO is YOUR servant? Anyway, Miss Yayoi and I have never been your servant! We served our princess…”
“Okay, okay that’s enough…”
Hideki stopped me and pulled me into a rank.
“We have no time. Listen, the trumpet is calling. The signal of the end of today’s job…We have to go up quickly!”
“And…”
Yahichi started to say something but Hideki took his words.
“I know, your majesty, you are heavily guarded…Let’s go up!”

At the midnight.
Suddenly I heard great screams and jumped out from my bedding. I saw Yayoi ran outdoors. I followed her.
Drag-Jason was chased by many guards. He was shoot and fell down as we watched.
“What happened?”
Yayoi asked to a guard.
“We caught a thief! Drag stole magical stuff, so we haul him off to Mr. Halin’s mansion. There is a prison”
“Oh…”
Yayoi just sighed. Too bad. I thought a second and chased the guards.
“Please,” I cried. “Please wait a moment. To tell the truth, my friend Yayoi loves Drag. Drag doesn’t know it, but she loves him. I know, Drag will be punished…killed by Mr. Halin, but if he die without knowing that Yayoi loved him, Yayoi must suffer sadness. Please, please let her see him and allow her to say “I’ve loved you” and “Good bye” or “God be with you” to him…It’s nothing trouble you. Please…”
He looked me in surprise…and said “Okay, but don’t take long time”.
So I ran back to Yayoi and told her to go to Jason and heal him.

Everything turned out okay.
Yayoi healed Jason. Jason appreciated her and said “I’ll sham being injured and infiltrate into Halin’s mansion. So, you all, go to the 7th floor in the basement, as we planned!”
Then we saw Drag-Jason off with pretended tears and weeps.

Strangers at the Ruins: Act2-2...Secret Meeting

At the evening, Yayoi, Jason and I went to the shack that the men lived, pretended to just bring them supper.
“Actually, this man is not Drag,” I said. “To tell the truth, he is a knight who came to help us!”
“Yes, my name is Jason…” He started.
“I came from The Order of the Morning Glory to free the ruins.
Do you know the twelve grate warlords? This country is dominated by one of the warlords who called “All Father”. He is irredeemably evil and attempts to dominate all the Empire against our Emperor. He is collecting magical stuff for the preparation of heinous treason. So we have to stop it”
“That sounds great!” Hideki answered. “Yes, we’ll be free from these lousy ruins, then beat up Stomp and take back Princess! Do you know Stomp, Jason?”
“Yes, he is a prince of “All Father”. Did he do anything?”
“He bought our princess as a slave.” I cried.
“So, your princess must be at the palace of “All Father”, I think.” Jason replied. “If you want to save your princess, you have to go to the palace.”
“So, the palace is our final destination!” Hideki said. “But at first, we have to be free.”
“That’s right.” Jason continued. “So, I’ll help you. And I’ve found a map of…I think provably I found a map of armory. But the map is written in ancient language, so I can’t read it exactly”
“Would you let me see it?”
Hiroshi said suddenly.
“I can’t tell why, but I feel I can read it”
Jason handed a map to Hiroshi and Hiroshi started to stair the map…
“I understood!”
“Magic!!”
Hiroshi and Jason shouted at same time.
“The armory is located at the 7th floor in the basement of the ruins…”
“Look at the tattoo on his shoulder! It’s glowing…It must be a magical tattoo!”
“I think so.” Hideki said.
“In this afternoon, I found a coin in the ruins. I knew it had magical power. I didn’t want to give the item to Halin…so before I through the arch of magic detection, I put the coin in my mouth.”
“What happened?” Jason asked.
“Nothing. Nothing has happened. The arch never beeped and I could keep the magical coin. Just my tattoo was slightly glowing. So if the tattoo has magical power, I think my tattoo has something related in magic.”
“You’re right.” Jason answered. “The tattoo on your shoulder is a rune and it means “The magic”. You all must have magical tattoo like him, don’t you?”
Of course, we all were inscribed a tattoo by the old man.
Hiroshi’s rune meant “The mind”. He could understand any language.
Yamanokouji’s rune was “The spider”. He said that he could climb straight wall and even could move the surface of ceiling.
Ichiro’s rune meant “The darkness”. He said he became to be able to see clearly even in gloom. “Yes, I can fight even in darkness, but it is owe to my “soldier’s instinct”. Before, I can’t see in twilight.”
Masamune’s rune meant “The creator”. So we thought he must have an amazing technique as an artisan or something.
Hajime’s rune was “The stormlord”. We had little idea about the rune, but he said his body became immune to electrical shock. “When I was working, a guard came and cracked down the men around him with a whip. I was beaten also. The whip had somehow electrical power. I felt it, but the electricity couldn’t hurt me. The guard shouted “What a creep!” and ran away.”
“They said exactly same words to me.” Yahichi “the noble” said. “I’ll show you…sit down!” He said to Jason, and Jason sat down as he said.
“I can order a parson. It’s so natural, because I have blue-blood. My rune means…”
“It means “The dominator”, your highness”
Hideki said amusedly.

Yayoi’s rune meant “The healer”. So she must have somehow healing power.
My rune meant “green thumb”. We had no idea about the power of my rune.

Anyway, we planned about the rebellion.
“Tomorrow, we’ll go to 7th floor in the basement and get weapons and armors.” Jason said and we nodded.
So we went back to our dilapidated hut and waited the next morning.

Strangers at the Ruins: Act2-1...Enslaved People

At the ruins, we met a man called Halin. He was the chief of the people in the ruins. He told us to dig out magical stuff from the ruins.
"What stuff do you want?" Someone asked.
"Anything and everything!" Halin answered. "If you work hard for 20 years and satisfy me, I'll make you free. Go down into the ruins and bring me anything you find!"
He pointed an entrance of the ruins. There was a stone arch. A man was coming from the ruins with something in his hand. He came through the arch. The arch blared in a strange sound. A guard--there was a lot of guard with spear and crossbow in the ruin--came to the man, and the man handed on something to the guard. Then, the man went back to the ruins.
"You see, we can see if you have magical stuff. If you ever try to trick us…"
Halin grinned. "You shall die."

The guards deprived everything except their breechcloth from men and choused them into the ruin. Yahichi cried "I'm a NOBLE! I've never held anything heavier than chopsticks!" Of course, it was no use. Yayoi and I were told to go to the kitchen and cook for them.

The all foods in the kitchen were not so good. No, to tell the truth, they were really bad. They were almost spoiled and the smell was awful. And the foods they gave us became worth and worth. One day, when we were making effort to cook something, a guard came into the kitchen.
"It's stinky!" He said. "Can't you cook foods for human being?"
"We can't," I answered. "We can't cook anything with such spoiled foods! If you want us to cook better meal, would you give us better foods?" He looked sharply at me, but I continued. "I'm not talking for myself! With such foods, males also can't work well. Good worker needs good foods! If you want…" I couldn't finish. He just shoved me away.
"Wait!" Yayoi said sharply. "Please borrow me bow and arrows or something. I'll go hunting and get fresh meat!"
"No kidding!" The guard scoffed at her. "We can't let you go out. You'll run away."
"No! I never think about…" Yayoi argued but the guard just laughed at her.
"If you can't believe us," I said. "You may tell your men to go with her! Anyway, we need better foods. Otherwise…"
"Okay!" At last, the guard said. "She can go hunting. But you, little girl, you must stay here!"
So Yayoi went out with a guard who called Drag.

One hour later, she came back with Drag. They came into the kitchen. Yayoi said to Drag "You have to wait us outside of the kitchen. Please pretend as if you are just overwatching us."
Drag nodded and went out. Then Yayoi smiled at me and said…

(Yayoi's story)
To tell the truth, the man isn't Drag. He is just disguising. He is a knight.
He is so strong and clever and…handsome…anyway he may help us. Yes, I'll tell you. As soon as we left the ruins, Drag told me to love him. Of course I just ignored him. Anyway we walked around…and found tracks of a horse. I followed the tracks. Several minutes later, I caught a sound. An armored knight was hiding behind the tree. He made a sign to me to be quiet and killed Drag with only a single attack. The knight is the man whom I came back with.
His name is Jason and he came from The Order of the Morning Glory. They want to free this ruins. But to carry out their mission, he has to infiltrate into the ruins. So he went under cover as Drag by the power of a magical scroll, and came here with me!

"So, can he help us?" I asked.
"Yes," Yayoi answered. "He said he will help us and he needs our help also!"

Strangers at the Ruins: Act1...Slave Market

The name of the city was Chainwall.
But it was not so important, because anyway, we all were sent to a slave market
directly. The city was totally strange to us. All buildings were built with
stones and the people were talking in a language totally strange to us. At the
slave market I and other girls felt as if we were walking on thorns and sobbed
in anxiety. Then someone came and talked to us. An old man with long white
beard.
"Daijoubu, daijoubu..."("Don't worry...")
He spoke our language! He soothed us, but after that he inscribed a tattoo on
our left shoulders. Even princess Kyoko was also tattooed. I thought that I’
ve just been branded as a slave. But strangely enough, when the chieftain of
the pirates noticed our tattoo, he got very angry. He knew nothing about the
old man and the tattoos he inscribed on us.

Anyway, we were sold.
Stomp is the name of man who bought our princess. In this city, almost all
rich males have their armors on, but he wore no armor. I hoped to go with my
princess, but of course, I couldn’t. I was bought by a half-ogre named Grog.
I was thankful for small mercies, because Yayoi was also bought with me.
Hajime and Yahichi were also with us. And there were other people from the
escort ship.

>From the escort ship...

Ichiro: He is also Samurai and one of the guards of princess, like Hajime. People say he is very strong and so brave, and he is the daredevil of the royal guard.

Hiroshi: A sailor. So tough and so rowdy man. But I have to say he is so clever and smart despite his rough looks, because he was the first man who understood the language of this country.

Masamune: A sailor. He appears as a gentle person. He speaks unemphatically anytime...but he is tough also. Tough and tireless and have somehow an artisan spirit...

Yamanokouji: He was a kitchen-boy of the escort ship. He is an "upbeat cheerful personality", and a really good guy. That’s not all. I think he’ll become a good sailor, because of his good fistfighting skill.

Hideki the cockeye: He is also a sailor. He told me that his name means "the hope of the land of rising sun"...Anyway, he is a scar-faced, cockeyed and horse-voiced bald guy. He has very practical mind and so clever. So I don’t mind if he sometimes steps off the stairs just like as I do.

Grog told us just to walk.
We had to walk a long, stony and tiresome way and Grog and his men choused us rowdily.
Luckily, no one fell down during the terrible journey.
Anyway, we all got to the destination alive.
We saw big ruins. Ruins spreading on and under the ground.

Strangers at the Ruins: Prologue...Tempest

Once upon a time…
There was a big Empire.
It was called “Empire of twelve Katana”, because it was ruled by twelve great warlords. The warlords fought against each other, and the countries in the empire were dominated by violent people like bandits. But the Emperor and his family stopped the war and brought peace to the land. The peace lasted for 200 years…

***

My name is Yuki, a chambermaid of princess Kyoko. We have just left our homeland to take princess Kyoko to the Great North Temple for her ritual pilgrimage. Lots of people departed with us to guard and take care of the princess. On our ship, there are…

Princess Kyoko: Our mistress

Yahichi the Pinwheel: A Noble. He is a scion of a famous ninja clan and came to guard our princess. I think he is too proud of his lineage. By the way, he said that we have to pronounce his name “Yahichi”, not “Yashichi”, because he is an Edokko.

Yayoi: She disguises herself as a sailor, but indeed, she is one of special guards called Oniwa-ban. We became friends during the voyage.

Hajime: A young handsome Samurai and one of the princess's guards. His position is not so high, but anyway, he is so handsome. And also other people say that he is a fearless soldier.

Yuki: Me, one of the princess's chambermaids. Just an ordinary girl.

...and so on. On the other ship, a lot of sailor and the princess's guard were aboard.

After ten days of voyage, weather changed suddenly. Tempest! It wasn't a normal storm. Destructive windstorm and tidal waves rocked our ship and I was almost thrown into the sea. Lucky for me, Yayoi, Hajime and Yahichi caught me.

Three days passed. The tempest still continued. Almost all the people
(including me) caught sea sickness.

The tempest lasted for seven days. Fortunately, we were still alive. But we all, except Yahichi, became too weak to stand. And we saw pirate ships coming.
There were almost 200 pirates! And for us, only Yahichi and one another soldier on the other ship can fight.
“I'll kill 100! You two can kill 50 each! That's all and no problem!!”
Someone shouted, but he never stood up, because he also was in severe sea sickness.

So, we all--including princess Kyoko--were caught by pirates and brought to a strange city.

"So after the session, she will write play report in English!"

 待てこら。

"That's good! So I'll be able to read the report..."
